CLASS RANK

Senior class rank will be determined by grade point average (GPA). The following procedures/policies will be followed in determining GPA:

1.) Students must attend four (4) full years at the high school level (grades 9-12) in order to graduate.

2.) GPA will be determined by dividing the quality points totaled by the number of courses taken.

3.) Beginning with the ninth grade class of 2001-2002 (graduates in May/June 2005)

a.) Only those seniors who have earned verified credits and will receive an advance diploma will be considered for valedictorian, salutatorian, or honor student.

b.) Students who pass a course, but wish to repeat the course in order to improve their grade may do so only one time. The higher grade will be used in calculating GPA.

4.) No Advance Placement (AP) or Dual Credit (DC) courses will be accepted from transfer students unless the same courses are offered at the school in which they are enrolling. If the course is not offered as a AP or DC, the grade will be recorded as an honor or regular course depending on the classes offered.

5.) Students must take the AP exam in order to receive weighted (5.0) credit. Full payment for the AP test must be paid at the beginning of the course.

6.) No summer school courses will be accepted until after the student has completed four full years at high school level (grades 9-12). The exception to this would be dual credit courses and/or governor's school course taken during the summer with prior approval of the principal.

7.) Students extenuation circumstances may apply for early graduation. The request will be referred to a school committee. If approved, the matter will be referred to the superintendent and/or the School Board for final approval. Students approved for early graduation will not be ranked.
