Diploma Information
For a student who is not eligible to receive special education services, there are two different diploma type options:
Advanced Studies: In order to achieve this diploma, a student must have 24 total academic credits. This must include 4 years of English, 4 years of Science, 4 years of History, 2 years of Physical Education (or 1 year of PE and 1 year of ROTC), 3 years of a foreign language or 2 years each of two foreign languages, 1 Fine/Practical Art, and 2 Electives. A student must also have 9 verified credits. Verified credits are earned through passing SOL End-of-Course tests.
Standard: In order to achieve this diploma, a student must have 22 total academic credits. This must include 4 years of English, 3 years of Math, 3 years of Science, 3 years of History, 2 years of PE (or 1 year of PE and 1 year of ROTC), 1 sequential elective, 1 Fine/Practical Art, and 4 electives. A student must also have 6 verified credits.
For a student who is eligible to receive special education services, there is another diploma type that is available in addition to the two mentioned above:
Modified Standard: In order to achieve this diploma, a student must have 20 total academic credits. This must include 4 years of English, 3 years of Math, 2 years of Science, 2 years of History, 2 years of PE (or 1 year of PE and 1 year of ROTC), 1 Fine/Practical Art, and 6 electives. A student must also pass the Math 8 SOL and the English 8: Reading SOL
A student who is eligible to receive special education services but did not complete the requirements for any of the above-mentioned diploma types may be eligible to receive a Special Diploma.
