Author: Rodman Philbrick
Reader: Stacie E.
This book is about how two completely different looking people can become the best of friends. Freak the mighty is made up of Freak, a very small boy who is crippled that is very smart, and a very tall, strong boy who has a learning disability. Together they make 'Freak the Mighty'. This book was a sad but very touching book.

Book: A Northern Light
Author: Jennifer Donnelly
Reader: Darla L.
An entertaining tale from start to finish that is set in the 1900s. A young girl loses her mother and becomes the caretaker for her family at no small cost to her freedom. The language is rich and each character is given depth that makes them jump from the pages. I loved the book. Hats off to Donnelly!

Book: What Erika Wants
Author: Bruce Clements
Reader: Stacie E.
Erika is a teenager whose parents are having a custody disagreement regarding where she should live. Her mother takes her to a hearing and Erika is appointed a lawyer who is required to attend court for her arguing for what Erika wants as far as living conditions go. I didn't really enjoy the story although it did provide a window into the world of a girl who is surrounded by over-needy adults who tax those around them. Overall, my impression of the story was that it was sad.

Book: A Bend in the Road
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Reader: Stacie E.
This is a great book about a man, named Miles, whose wife was killed by a hit and run. He has a son who he is left to raise by himself. His son was having trouble in school and Miles had to go to see the teacher, Sarah, not knowing he would fall in love. But there is a mystery still to be solved. Why and how did his wife die, who did it, who was to blame? The story has a very shocking ending/solving of the mystery.

Book: Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons
Author: Lorna Landvik
Reader: Darla L.
This book was about a group of housewives who decided to form a book club. It spans about thirty years in the ladies lives. Each time a new book is discussed the voice of the story changes to a different housewife. Each of the ladies have struggles and defining moments in the thirty years. Several controversial topics are discussed in the book and there is a bit of language. I liked the book club part of the book and the strengthening effect it had on each woman's life.
