Practical Nursing Program
Testing for entrance into the Practical Nursing Program is scheduled for Friday, March 9, and Wednesday, March 14. Any Junior wishing to enter the program next school year must take the entrance test. The test will be given at the LCCTC computer lab at no charge for students currrently in high school. Students should arrive at 8:30 and testing will begin at 9:00. The test will take approximately 3 hours. Students should notify their morning classroom teachers that testing will not be completed until 4th period Lunch C. Interested students my pre-register in the Guidance Department and bring a high school transcript on the day of testing.
The Lee County Career & Technical Center offers an 18-month formal education program in Practical Nursing. the program is approved by the State Department of Education and the Virginia Board of Nursing. The course is divided into two 9-month sessions. The pre-clinical and clinical course follow the county's school calendar and consists of classroom theory, skills laboratory and selected hospital experiences. Pre-clinical students are divided into two classes, each of which is a 3-period block. The clinical course is 36 weeks following the pre-clinical course. Students successfully completing the pre-clinical phase are eligible to enter the clinical phase. With successful completion of the clinical phase, the student may make application for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). The Virginia Board of Nursing establishes minimum requirements for licensure.
