*AIMS High= er Program Scholarship: The MECC Appalachian Inter-Intermountain Schol= ars (AIMS) Higher Program encourages Virginia-resident students in grades 8-12 = in Lee, Scott, Wise, Dickenson Counties and the City of Norton to complete a challenging curriculum and to pursue higher education. Students who graduate from high sc= hool and meet the program guidelines will have the opportunity to attend up to t= wo years (72 semester credits) of college without paying any tuition. In order to qualify, the graduate = must attend Mountain Empire Community College full-time during the fall semester immediately following spring graduation from high school. Students must ach= ieve a grade of at least a “C” or better in each of the approved high school courses, maintain a 95% school attendance rate, have no out of school suspensions and complete 20 hours of community service. http://www.leectysch= .com/TW/guidance/aims.jpg.

*Universit= y of Virginia, High School Outreach Opportunity in Engineering for Junior/Senior Girls, February 26-27, 2011. = The Society of Women Engineers at the University of Virginia is committed to increasing the involvement of women in Science, Technology, Engineering &am= p; Mathematics (STEM) fields. Fe= male junior and senior high school students are invited to spend a weekend explo= ring majors and careers in engineering and conducting hands-on STEM activities, = in order to heighten interest in STEM fields.= High School Visitation Weekend will be held February 26-27, 2011 as = part of National Engineering Week.
