Overview

The School Nutrition staff works diligently in implementing healthy and nutritious food choices. All food choices and school meals meet or exceed the United States Department of Agriculture's standards and Federal meal requirements. The dietary specifications set specific caloric limits to ensure age-appropriate meals and are certified to be in compliance. Meals are nutritionally balanced and prepared at a low or no cost to the student.

Offer versus serve (OVS) allows students to decline some of the foods offered for a reimbursable meal. The goals are to reduce food waste and to permit students to choose the foods they want to eat. A choice of 3, 4, or 5 components may be counted as a reimbursable meal. Components include meats/meat alternate, fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy.

School Nutrition plays a key role in providing support and information needed to make healthy choices while instilling habits that are vital to a healthier lifestyle. Good nutrition is essential to making lifelong choices for a better future.
